AN ELITE ALPINE RACE PROGRAM FOR SKIERS 8+
USSS. (U.S. Ski & Snowboard) Alpine Ski Race Team
Competing in the Connecticut Youth Ski League/Tri-State League
The Mohawk Mountain Alpine Race Team (MMART) is a competitive alpine ski race program for athletes ages 8 and older. Competing in the U.S. Ski & Snowboard U10-U18 categories, MMART races in the Connecticut Youth Ski League (CYSL) and Tri-State Alpine Racing Association as part of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Eastern Division.
MMART fosters a positive, competitive, and supportive environment where athletes are challenged to reach their full potential as alpine ski racers while developing confidence, sportsmanship, and a lifelong passion for the sport. We are dedicated to helping each athlete pursue their individual goals, whether that means advancing to an academy program, competing at the highest levels of the sport, coaching future generations of athletes, or simply becoming the strongest skier they can be.
Following U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Long-Term Athlete Development model, our program emphasizes the development of strong skiing fundamentals before race tactics. Athletes should expect to spend time building technical skills both in and out of the race course, rather than simply running gates every training session.
Race Team is a demanding program that requires a significant commitment of time and resources. Members are expected to attend every weekend practice and, whenever possible, optional weekday training sessions. Practices begin in December (weather permitting), and the season may extend into mid-March for racers who qualify for post-season competition. Travel to competitions at other ski areas is required, as is membership with U.S. Ski & Snowboard (USSS), the Connecticut Youth Ski League (CYSL), and the Tri-State Alpine Ski Racing Association.
ELIGIBILITY & INVITATIONS
Participants must be 8 years of age or older as of December 31, 2026.
Membership on MMART is by invitation only and is based on a variety of factors, including a skier’s AAA Rating (Ability, Attitude, and Attendance) and the unique needs of the team from season to season.
Many athletes earn invitations after progressing through Mohawk Mountain’s Interclub and D-Squad race development programs, giving Race Team coaches the opportunity to assess their readiness. Competitive tryouts are also held every February.

REGISTRATION
Returning Team Members
Athletes who were in good standing of the 2025/2026 team will receive an automatic invitation to return.
Returning racers may register beginning August 3, 2026 and must be completed by August 17, 2026. Racers who do not register by this deadline will forfeit their invitation, and the available team spot may be offered to a new participant.
New Team Members
New racers selected for the team will receive an emailed invitation from the MMART Director in mid-August, along with instructions for completing registration.
Registered families will receive an informational packet containing season schedules, required equipment lists, and registration information for U.S. Ski & Snowboard (USSS), the Connecticut Youth Ski League (CYSL), and the Tri-State Alpine Ski Racing Association.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The Mohawk Mountain Alpine Race Team is led by Head Coach, Tim Ruh.
As Head Coach, Tim provides leadership in athlete and coach recruitment, coach education and training, athlete development, and team communications. He brings collegiate ski racing experience and has coached both high school ski racing programs and the Mohawk Mountain Alpine Race Team for several seasons. Tim is a certified U.S. Ski & Snowboard Alpine Coach and Race Official.
All racers are required to maintain membership with U.S. Ski & Snowboard (USSS), the Tri-State Alpine Ski Racing Association, and the Connecticut Youth Ski League (CYSL). Registration and renewal information will be provided in the fall.
A parent or guardian must remain within 20 minutes of Mohawk Mountain during all practices and be available to return to the mountain if needed.
